2001 was Hov year and it introduced the world Kanye West. Izzo was Kanye’s first hit and it gave Jay the confidence to take on Nas and takeover the rap game. The original Blueprint is his best work to date and was recorded in under 2 weeks. Classic

A couple of weeks off of Oldschool Monday due to the the Olympics and we are back and in the 2000’s. One of the most genius records of all-time with maybe the best video to go with it

The year was 1999 and the good Doctor reminded us why he is king. He called his album 2001 though it was actually released in ‘99, it’s a good thing Detox doesn’t have a year attached

You can’t talk ‘98 without talking the greatest female entertainer of all time. In my view at least. 1998 was all Ms. Hill

It would be wrong not to recognize Wyclef’s classic ‘97  album The Carnival, especially with everything going on in Haiti right now. Enjoy, classic art from the home land

Shiney Suit man comes into his own after the sudden death of the greatest to ever do it. It all happened in ‘97

So Oldschool Monday is back, we took a little break over Christmas but we are now back and getting back into our schedule. Enjoy

We missed last week due to finals, so we are back with 95 this week. I still rock The Infamous in my ipod all the time. Maybe my favorite album of all-time

Aight well, first, it’s been a minute since I’ve participated in old school monday so I had to spend a minute playing catch up and finding out what year we are at. Also, usually I try to think of some music that people might not of caught on to during that era: Big L is not this. “put it on” was that track that brought Big L to the forefront of hip-hop. Not only is the man able to showcase his lyrical skills here, he also carries the track like no one else could have at this point in time. His flow was machine-gunesque, but not like biggie’s but rather in a way hip hop hadn’t seen before. His wordplay was different than previous artists who were his idols and influences, but his outlook on the game was the same. Simply, it was his innovation that made Big L the potential superstar he was. Comparable to that of Lupe when he first dropped, Big L was toted as the next great. All until his untimely death in Feb 1999.

The year was 94, and Nas brought in most people’s view the greatest hip hop album ever made. Ohh ya and Biggie came out in 94 too
